Less plastic waste

Image
This is a little invention I came up with recently because I wanted to find a way of selling cards with no plastic packaging but at the same time keeping it together with the envelope in a manner whereby you can still see the card. Some card manufacturers don't use plastic on their cards however, a great many cards are sold with plastic packaging and although some of the packaging is made of  polypropylene which is recyclable - it is not collected in recycling collections as there is not always a market for using it by Local Authorities. Therefore it is going to be thrown away. So here is my design (after a couple of different prototypes) - It is a strip of paper (which I have printed with my website and details and it is around inch and a half wide and you lay it across the back of the card and matching envelope and then bring around to the front where it comes out at the two diagonal corners and then you can trim it and fold it across on each side securing it with a sma...

Are you organised for Christmas - no boo-ing!

Image
Oh my gosh! did I have a lovely time making these cards yesterday! (yes I did). It was raining drizzle fashion in the morning and then the sun came out - so I had to go outside and abandon card making for the sunshine and some blackberry picking activity. Then it got colder and I was back indoors finishing the cards off. All of the cards I made were using the 'Bells are Ringing' bundle from the new Stampin' Up seasonal catalogue. I posted some catalogues out this monday to current customers but if you didn't get one and would like one just contact me. This bundle is one of the cheapest stamp set + dies bundles in the catalogue and so I decided it was a good one to choose. You can see it meets my criteria for a stamp set - i.e. it has images, background stamping capability and sentiments all in one stamp set. I also thought I could use it for Christmas, weddings and christenings, so it will fulfil more than once purpose. I can make my Christmas cards, tags and als...

Getting the crafting off to a new start

Image
I had quite an interesting day today because I wanted to make some cards with a particular stamp set and I have not tried out working in my new craft room which is now shared with Si as a study (although I noticed mostly my craft stuff!). It took all day to get going and I wanted to create something really pretty so I had set myself a tricky goal. I used the 'Beautiful You' stamp set which my lovely friend Cayleigh May gave to me as a present and it is a wooden set, which I treasure because Stampin' Up don't make wood sets anymore. I have wanted to make some cards with this set for ages. I also used some lovely papers that I won in a raffle before I moved to Devon at my friend Rachael's monthly workshop in Southsea. The papers are called 'See a Silhouette' Designer Series Paper (DSP) I love the jewel colours and marbled patterns they are so rich! The images are stamped once onto 'very vanilla' cardstock and once onto the DSP and then I ...

Making Cards with Memories and More Packs

Image
Sometimes just a small packet of loveliness is what you need to rekindle your mo-jo. I used the Come Sail Away Memories and More Card Pack from Stampin' Up to make this card. Usually reserved for decorating my photo albums, this pack had just what I need to make, a certain sailor I know, a tailored birthday card. To make the card I folded a card base and added a navy blue mat with 'Stampin' dimensionals' and then added the lovely laser cut waves from the pack and some of the cut out images and stickers giving some of them dimension with 'stampin' dimensionals'. (by the way these will, from the 4th September, be available in black - see the new autumn / winter seasonal catalogue). A finishing touch was to add an anchor charm with bakers twine to the top right hand corner. The charms are also available - visit my shop and type in 'sail away trinkets' A little pot of 20 is yours for £7.50. 10 anchors and 10 ships wheels. I have this August ...

Scrapbooking with Bird Ballard papers

Image
I have spent the last few days having a lovely time making this album using Bird Ballard suite from my Stampin' Up shop. It is A4 landscape made using A4 pieces of card mainly in basic grey card with petal pink, pool party blue and pear pizazz green to co-ordinate with the Bird Ballard papers. I utilised the stamp set called 'Free as a bird' , 2 packs of 12x12 papers, the trinkets (bird ballard trinkets) and the cards and envelopes that come in a sweet pink tin to make the album. (Bird ballard laser cut cards and tin) I have some plans to make another mini album inside the tin at a later date - but for now I hope you like the album - I have put together a short video showing the insides of the album. I am not sure exactly how I put it together as it was not really planned I just had a couple of basic ideas from things I had seen online and I wanted to make something big enough to put bigger photos into and lots of them and it developed as I went along. This made it...

DIY your Pretty Papers

Image
I like these papers soooo much I decided to put them in full view in my craft room where I can enjoy them every day. After all, craft purchases should be used and not stashed!! I know lots of people don't agree with me but at the risk of being controversial ... what is the point of having drawers filled with stuff you only occasionally look at - or sniff!  The paper I used is from the Beautiful Promenade dsp pack by stampin up - you can buy a pack from my shop - just click on shop in the menu above and then click on the shop button and search through the designer series paper which is 12x12 inches.  If you cut the paper and arrange it in the same order it is a lot easier on the eye. Also you can use it to make a puzzle later!! I cut the pieces and glued to the IKEA drawers using Tombow - or PVA glue  When dry sand the edges the bits of paper overlapping the edges then meet exactly and the edges that don't meet the edges of the wood take on a shabby chic s...

Hooray - Its your day

Image
Yesterday I showcased the other stamp in this set and today it is the 'Hooray - its your day' card with a little box I made - more information on this tomorrow! I stamped the card onto white card - already cut using a stitched rectangle die in navy ink. I have this new stamparatus I am just getting used to it and I stamped the sentiment with it to get good placement.  Then I coloured the image in with watercoloring pencils helped along with a blender pen. I stuck to 2 colours only (pink and yellow) and didn't totally colour the image in for a different, less busy look. Then mounted onto stitched cut pink card and finally Navy card base. Yesterday I mentioned that the retired stock was showing up - retiring 3rd June - However it is a little bit confusing because the stamps are changing from wood and clear to 'cling' - the stock also shows some stamp sets that are going to still be available in the new catalogue but they will be in the new cling - hence ...
